Futaleufu, is a small 20 block grid town with pastel painted houses in the Chilean Andes mountains, close to the border with Argentina. The town has been named after the river with a similar name. The area is known for adventure activities. Here you can go hiking in the surrounding mountains (trekking as it is known here), fly fishing for trout, horse riding, rock climbing, mountain biking or white water rafting – and all of these are world class. Once a year the Futa river is host to international kayaking championships.

We opted for white water rafting – what an experience!

It started off rough and then got rougher!

Having an exhilarating ride on the Futaleufu!

The Futa runs through a pristine area between mountains. Being on the river gives one a fantastic view of the surrounding area which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Enjoying the surrounding area before the first big rapid hit us!

Here are a few more action shots of us going through one rapid after the other.

We have survived!
